Colored Easter Eggs!

Traditional Easter Egg coloring and decorating:

Dyed Easter Eggs :

  1. Boil one dozen eggs for each dyer.
  2. Spread out lots of newspaper to protect the work surface. Then gather up one teacup for each color and a big spoon for each cup.
  3. Dissolve the tablet, or dab of paste, in a cup of hot water mixed with 1/4 cup vinegar. Add several drops of oil to some of the cups.
  4. Let the eggs cool, then dip to your heart's content. Try dipping an egg first in an oil-less dye, and then in one with oil.
  5. Let each egg drip on a white paper towel, and you've got homemade place mats for Easter morning breakfast.

Easter Eggs Crayon Colored:

  1. Boil the eggs in a mixture of water and vinegar (about 1 1/2 tablespoons of vinegar for every cup of water) for 10 minutes, then turn off the heat.
  2. Carefully remove a hot egg and let it cool for about 10 minutes. (Leave the others in the water until you're almost ready to decorate them, so they stay warm.)
  3. Holding the egg on a paper towel, draw on the shell with the crayons. To avoid smudging your design when turning the egg, carefully lift it from the paper towel, turn it, then set it back down. Let the design set for about 30 minutes.

Decoupage Easter Eggs :

  1. Cut out the paper images and soak them for a few minutes in a mixture of 2 tablespoons white glue and 2 tablespoons water. Note: Smaller pictures (1-inch square or smaller) work best. The larger the image, the more it will fold and crease when glued to the egg.
  2. Remove the images from the mixture and gently press them onto the egg. The paper should bend and adhere to the egg's curved surface.
  3. Set aside to dry, then paint on borders, designs or solid colors for the background.

  3. Remove the stickers. Use your finger to rub away any residue.

Sponge Stamped Easter Eggs :

  1. Cut out small shapes, about 1/2-inch wide, from the sponge.
  2. Dip the sponge into the paint, dab off the excess and make a pattern of stamps on the egg.
